Despite not always being counted among the best chapters of the series, Final Fantasy 9holds a special place in the hearts of many fans. One of these thought well of making a mod for the PC version with the aim of drastically improving the visual rendering of the game.
Thus was born the Moguri Mod, which according to the author “totally renews the PC portals of Final Fantasy IX thanks to Deep Learning techniques”. Judging by the images published on the official website of the project, the result is amazing. All pre-rendered backgrounds now have a higher resolution and appear incredibly more detailed. Judge for yourself by looking at the comparison and the attached photos below. The modernization work, however, did not stop at the visual aspect, since it also included 15 orchestral tracks made by Pontus Hultgren and a customized version of the Memoria Mod, which offers players more options and customizations.
The Moguri Mod is compatible only with the Steam version of Final Fantasy 9, which was published two years ago. If you were looking for an excuse to replay the whole adventure … now you have it! The mod can be downloaded from the official website, which you can access by following the link at the bottom of this news.
We take the opportunity to remind you that Final Fantasy 9 has recently been released also on Xbox One and Nintendo Switch. For the occasion, Square Enix has revealed some background on development.
People have figured out a way to use deep learning AI to enhance images beyond what their original resolution was and are using it to upscale textures from old games. One of the most impressive versions of this is an ongoing Final Fantasy 9 mod.
