The Strong National Museum of Play announced the four games selected in 2019 as new members of the prestigious World Video Game Hall of Fame.
The museum, which is based in, contains the largest videogame exhibition in the world, aimed at celebrating the history of this incredible medium. Four requirements to be admitted to the World Video Game Hall of Fame: icon status; influence; geographical scope; longevity. On the basis of the latter, the Strong Museum has elected four videogames as new members of the videogame Hall of Fame, which thus constitute the new entries for 2019. Below, we, therefore, present the complete list:
- Colossal Cave Adventure: created by Will Crowther, a programmer at the “Bolt, Beranek, and Newman” (BBN), back in 1976;
- the Microsoft Solitaire: a classic that does not really need any introduction, included by Microsoft in every version of its operating system in the period between 1990 and 2013;
- Mortal Kombat: published in 1992, the game marked the beginning of a still-thriving franchise;
- Super Mario Kart: debut on Super Nintendo Entertainment System (SNES), also in 1992.
What do you think of these games? Are you happy with their entry into the World Video Game Hall of Fame? Mortal Kombat is still today one of the main franchises in the fighting field and just recently the new Mortal Kombat 11 was published. The most recent exponent of the Nintendo kart-game is Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, which continues to record numbers for the series.
