We have already reported the news of Japanese fans disappointed with Aerith’s new appearance in Final Fantasy 7 Remake, a similar controversy has now struck even the character of Barret, present in the new trailer of the game shown last week during the PlayStation Store event of Play.
According to some criticisms posted on ResetERA and on the main social networks, Barrett would now be ” too white ” (the term most frequently used in negative comments is whitewash ) compared to the original version. Other negative criticisms, on the other hand, complain about an inadequate haircut, little modern glasses and a voice tone not up to par.
A part of the community accuses Square Enix of having totally distorted the character of Barret Wallace. Do you agree with these criticisms, or not? Let us know below in the comments area.
Recall that Final Fantasy VII Remake is still without a release date, in all likelihood the game will be shown during the Square Enix E3 conference, the launch is still set after March 2020, the game is in fact in the publisher’s lineup for the current fiscal year. Confirmed the episodic structure already anticipated in 2015, also a possible arrival of FF7 on PlayStation 5 was not excluded, at the moment however the final platforms (besides, of course, at PS4) have not yet been announced.

My self being a black man only concern with the trailer was why did they made Barret less black than he is. I want Barret to be a gruff black guy. Thats how I remember him.
