Matt Thorson, Celeste’s creative director, spoke on Twitter to update us on the progress of the free DLC that will introduce Chapter 9: Farewell.
Thorson confirmed that the additional content will include elements of the story. Initially, they were not planned, but during the development, the team decided to expand the narrative background of the adventure that sees young Madeline as the protagonist, called to face her demons in a journey full of pitfalls and secrets to be discovered towards the summit of Mount Celeste. Limited Run Games took the opportunity to let us know that Chapter 9 will boast new tracks composed by Lena Raine, already the author of the soundtrack of the base game. Additional content will also be included in all physical versions of the title published by Limited Run.
The launch date of the DLC has not yet been announced, but we know that it is in the final stages of development. Thorson has already reported in the past that Chapter 9 will offer the toughest challenge ever, as well as introducing new objects and mechanics. It is available on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PC and Nintendo Switch.
We're finishing up the script for #Celeste Chapter 9 this week and next! We originally weren't planning to do any story but… then we did 😛

The upcoming DLC for @celeste_game is confirmed to be story DLC, with a bunch of new tracks by @kuraine! We're so happy to be including this in every physical copy of Celeste. Games should be preserved in their fully finished form wherever possible. ?✨ https://t.co/9LMYSghvT1
