In the last few hours a fuss has arisen around Sniper 3D Assassin, a mobile video game, also sold on Steam, by TFG, a Brazilian software house, due to a particular mission in which the player is asked to kill a journalist.
Sniper 3D Assassin was released in 2014 and in 2016 was for a time the most downloaded game on the App Store, so it is a game with a different sequel. The mission in question is called Breaking News , it is a seventh of the game and it happens after the player has already shot in the levels preceding, among others, an alleged murderer, a thief who stole a backpack from a tourist, a sniper who it kills innocent people (ironically) and three men who were guarding a gang’s arsenal.
The objective of Breaking News is precisely to kill a reporter: “A journalist has corrupted a policeman and will collect a briefcase from the latter. The briefcase is full of important documents. Make it famous in a different way.” the description reads, which left everyone a bit perplexed, so much so that after the story began to run, the same software house decided to remove the mission from the game.
“Our game is fiction and is aimed at an adult audience. In TFG we work to create games that bring fun and entertainment to users around the world, so we take their feedback very seriously. After listening to our community, we decided to remove the Breaking News mission from the game “.
Will it be enough to quell the controversy?
My nephew let me play an iPad shooting game with him. He chose the mission: It’s called “Breaking News,” and the objective is to shoot a journalist who just received documents from a police officer.
The goal is to make the journalist “famous in a different way.” pic.twitter.com/nQy4Hzq97r
