Many were afraid that Cyberpunk 2077 could slip directly to the next generation of consoles, given the development time. In any case, first the billboards and then the same CD Projekt RED confirmed that the title will be released on PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC.
Since the current generation is winding down, it is questionable whether Cyberpunk 2077 will also arrive on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Scarlett in the future. Tom Philips of Eurogamer has thought to ask it on our behalf to the Lead Quest Designer Paweł Sasko in an interview released on the sidelines of E3 2019. The developer explained that at the moment the team is focusing, as it should be, on the development of the three previously announced versions. The intention of the team, among other things, is to avoid crunch time. In any case, the Polish kids “in the future would like to bring Cyberpunk 2077 on next-generation platforms”.
Both PlayStation 5 and Xbox Scarlett will be backwards compatible, so they will be perfectly capable of running Cyberpunk 2077. Sasko, in any case, has hinted that in the future, when the work on PS4 and Xbox One will be completed, they could consider the idea to develop a special version of the game for the next-gen, with all the necessary improvements. Unfortunately, he didn’t want to tell us if they have already gained access to the dev-kits of the new consoles!
We’ll see. In the meantime, mark the date on April 16, 2020, when we will finally have the opportunity to play the full version of the title.
