Kaz Hirai, the historical face of Sony Corporation and PlayStation, has officially abandoned the company he had been working for 35 years, back in 1984, the year that saw him join Sony Music, where he immediately achieved excellent results.
In 1995 the move to Sony Computer Entertainment together with Ken Kutaragi (universally known as the father of PlayStation) up to lead the entire division eleven years later, in full PlayStation 3. Since 2012 Hirai has served as president and CEO of Sony Corporation, in March 2019 finally the passing of a baton with the current CEO Kenichiro Yoshida.
Kaz Hirai is no longer an employee of Sony Corporation and will limit himself from now on to collaborate as a consultant, a request that came from the company’s management team. Speaking of his successor, Hirai says that “Yoshida has the necessary experience and leadership skills required to manage the full range of Sony activities, it is the best person to lead the company towards new goals.“
The decision to abandon the company is mainly due to the desire to spend more time with one’s family and the need to lower the stress levels that such a charge inevitably entails.
