FromSoftware: “We Didn’t Want to Create a More Linear and Storydriven Experience for Elden Ring”

Elden Ring: FromSoftware Illustrates the Similarities Between Dark Souls, Bloodborne and Sekiro

Elden Ring, the new project of the FromSoftware team was officially presented at E3 2019, with the transmission of the first teaser trailer during the Microsoft conference.

Among the elements that instantly captured the attention of the public, we find confirmation that George RR Martin, author of the literary saga of the Chronicles of Ice and Fire, collaborated in the realization of the title. Regarding this collaboration, Hidetaka Miyazaki was able to offer further details during a recent interview. The appreciated game designer has in particular underlined how the narration in the videogame sector can impose to a writer decidedly greater ties with respect to those of his own job. By virtue of this consideration, unity with the team’s desire not to “create a more linear and story-driven experience for Elden Ring”, led to the choice of instructing Martin to give shape to the mythology of the game world: “By having him write about a time in which the player is not directly involved, he is free to give vent to his creativity in the way he prefers,”said Miyazaki . By exploring Elden Ring, players will progressively try to find out what happened in the past to the world they are venturing into, thus revealing Martin’s mythology.

A certainly interesting approach, whose objective seems to have been to enhance each of the talents involved in the project.
