EVO 2019: Smash Firmly at the Head of Preferences, Samurai Shodown Goes up

EVO 2019

Missing very little at the 2019 edition of EVO, a historic event dedicated to the tough fighting game community that will start in Las Vegas next August. Last week, the organizer (and president) Joey Cuellar shared the latest update on the titles at the tournament.

Super Smash Bros. Ultimate firmly maintains its position on the first place with thousands of subscribers, while the battle is for second place between Tekken 7 and Street Fighter V: Arcade Edition continues, with the two titles currently having the same number of participants sign in.

The most interesting thing is that Samurai Shodown, who has just arrived on the shelves, has passed Mortal Kombat 11 and is now in fourth place. The game is one step away from breaking the all-time record for an SNK title (currently held by KOFXIII which had 1,072 participants in Evo 2012), so things are going very well for the revival of the SNK franchise.

Cuellen also created a poll on Twitter asking fans which of the four finals should end the EVO 2019 with BlazBlue: Cross Tag Battle, Tekken 7, Street Fighter V: Arcade Edition and Super Smash Bros. Ultimate (whose world event) held at E3, it was a success). The survey ends tomorrow.

Registration for the event will close this Sunday in the early afternoon: if you feel the new beat ’em up phenomena and are interested in participating in the event, you can go to smash.gg and register.
