Nintendo Switch has sold over 36 million consoles since its launch but how exactly did last quarter sales go? Let’s find out together.
In the period from April 1 to June 30, 2019 (first quarter of fiscal 2020) the Nintendo console placed 2.13 million units, a figure up 13.2% on an annual basis, while distributed physical games reached 22.62 million, also in this case, the number increased by 25.9% compared to the same period in 2018. Digital sales, on the other hand, exceeded 30.6 billion yen, growing by 65.3%, an absolutely positive result for the Kyoto company.
The success of the first quarter prompted Nintendo not to revise its sales forecasts for the current fiscal year (which will end on 30 March 2020) equal to 18 million units to be distributed. Despite the good numbers, Nintendo Switch has nevertheless sold less than PS4, which has placed 3.2 million pieces in the quarter, but this figure does not have to worry, as in the first part of the year Switch tends to maintain rather contained sales for then grow during the autumn and for Christmas, thanks to the numerous games coming up at the end of the year.
Switch sales should further increase starting in September, with the launch of Nintendo Switch Lite and games like The Legend of Zelda Link’s Awakening, Pokemon Sword and Shield and Luigi’s Mansion 3.
