William ” Leffen ” Hjelte, Swedish Super Smash Bros. player and last year’s Smash Melee champion (final won against Armada), said via Twitter that he will have to give up on the 2019 Evo due to an unexpected problem with his passport and entry visa to the United States.
In a couple of tweets, Leffen said he could not pick up his passport and visa because he had no identification other than a passport, which he could not use.
Although he showed “cards” (presumably debit or credit cards) and bank statements, he could not receive an entry visa in the US.
He also said that he also tried to contact all the relevant offices, but apparently, they couldn’t do anything to fulfill his request. The embassy itself could not have done anything, as the visa application was too close at the time of departure and would never have arrived in time. This is the second time in four years that Leffen (player of the SoloMid Team and in the Red Bull team) cannot participate in the EVO due to a problem related to the entry into the United States.
In 2016, he participated in the Super Smash Bros. Melee tournament due to delays in the visa approval process. Unfortunately for him this year he will watch the event – which loses one of the great protagonists – from home.
My passport with my visa arrived, just in time so I could make it to EVO. But I couldn't pick it up because, well, you need ID to verify and the only one I have atm that they recognize is my passport…
showed cards &bank statements from 5 years back and had jennie vouch, but no.
