Over time, the number of players supported in the co-operative mode of Gears of War has halved and, in fact, in the fourth chapter of the series it was possible to play in the company of just one friend. In Gears 5 things have improved slightly, but 4-player support is still impossible for developers.
In the new chapter, we will be able to play with 2 other friends the entire game campaign and, for the development team, this seems to be the maximum number of players for the story. According to Rod Ferguson’s words, the boss of The Coalition, there are several reasons that prevent 4 players from supporting simultaneously. Among these, we find it impossible to create maps large enough to include enough covers for all the players and the difficulty in giving enough space in every single scene to all 4 hypothetical protagonists. In short, it seems that there are not only the limitations from the technical point of view to prevent the return to the old co-op but also the willingness of the developers to create a story that can deepen better the characters controlled by the players. The Escape mode of Gears 5 will also support a maximum of 3 players, while we can fight in the Horde alongside 4 other players.
We remind you that the game will arrive on the shelves of all stores starting from September 13th, 2019 exclusively on PC (Windows 10) and Xbox One. All subscribers to the Microsoft Xbox Game Pass service can also download and play the game for free from day one.
