Tim Willits, one of the historical personalities and former head of id Software, has just announced that he has changed company, thus moving to Saber Interactive with the new Chief Creative Officer. This is an epochal change, given the long history of Willits with id, for a total duration of 24 years.
The new CCO of Saber Interactive compared this event to the end of a marriage, explaining the reasons for the choice. The main cause was the desire to work in an environment more like an independent studio.
“The agility of smaller teams and the opportunity to do things quickly cannot be underestimated. I will never say anything negative about Bethesda, I love them. But minor realities are fun and exciting. When someone has a good idea, we jump on board and develop it. If it doesn’t work, we change it quickly. “
For the truth, Saber Interactive has 5 studios and over 500 employees, but it is a considerably smaller company like Bethesda or Activision, so the discussion can actually make sense.
“At my age, you have to work with people you like, and fun things. I have nothing to prove, I have been successful, I have made good games. In the end, what I will do is literally go around the world to work with teams fantastic and create video games. Why should I let it go? ” said Willits. And indeed, how to blame him?
Saber Interactive is currently developing The Witcher 3 on Nintendo Switch.
