There are only a few days left to start Gamescom, and the attention of the videogame world is entirely focused on the important Cologne event. The highly anticipated presentation show, led by Geoff Keighley, will also see the presence of Hideo Kojima, and that alone would be enough to keep the attention of the fans very high.
Death Stranding is in fact expected as one of the absolute protagonists of the show, as is confirmed by the presence of Need for Speed Heat, presented just in recent days, and of the new titles that will ignite the videogame football season as FIFA 20 and eFootball PES 2020.
But what are the games we all expect to see unveiled on the Gamescom 2019 stage? Apart from those confirmed, dreaming is legitimate and given that so many super interesting titles are coming, let’s start to make some hypotheses.
Said of Death Stranding, the other two major axes up its sleeve from Sony are undoubtedly its next two exclusives: Ghost of Tsushima and The Last of Us 2. Recently, however, some rumors spoke of a presentation in a State of Play for Naughty Dog’s announced masterpiece, so the release date for The Last of Us 2 could be announced in November. According to the same rumors furthermore, Ghost of Tsushima could suffer a slight delay, so although we would be very pleased, the presence of the two Gamescom 2019 titles is not at all certain.
We expect a few bumps also from Microsoft, because although the attentions seem to be aimed mainly at the next-gen, there are still titles like Halo Infinite coming out and Gears 5, also coming soon and whose presence was already confirmed. However, the news could also arrive about any new updates of Forza Horizon and Sea of Thieves, as well as further updates on Project xCloud, on which Microsoft seems to be focusing a lot.
As for Nintendo, however, the eyes should be on the two titles coming soon, namely Luigi’s Mansion 3 and the remake of The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening. It will then be an opportunity to try more deeply Nintendo Switch Lite, which will be released only a few weeks after the show closes, while the playable presence of The Witcher 3 and Pokémon Sword and Shield is confirmed. But to put a (nice) bit of pepper in the presence of the Grande N could be the sequel to Breath of the Wild, briefly announced during E3 2019, of which maybe we could finally see something. Without forgetting the new Animal Crossing, which was postponed to the beginning of 2020, but which remains a highly anticipated title by fans of the saga.
Perhaps it is still too early for news on Metroid Prime 4, after the development has started practically from scratch, but if we want to talk about to announcements, then why not try to hypothesize a Mario Kart 9? After all, in this gen, the only title in the saga released is a remake of the Wii U game, and the rise of Crash Team Racing Nitro-Fueledcould be the decisive push to develop a new chapter and win back the fans passed to the competition.
Speaking of the big publishers instead Electronic Arts , in addition to the already mentioned Need for Speed Heat and FIFA 20 could decide to show Star Wars: Jedi Fallen Order, due out later this year, and a title on which the publisher seems to bet a lot, in addition to any updates on Anthem, in desperate need of recovery.
Square Enix has the two aces up its sleeve that has already been played at the last E3: Final Fantasy VII Remake and Marvel’s Avengers: will we know more during Gamescom? Furthermore, we could also talk about the future of Life is Strange 2 and Oninaki.
Ubisoft, on the other hand, has intrigued everyone with Watch Dogs Legion, and Gamescom 2019 could be a good opportunity to take a closer look at its post- Brexitdystopian London. We also expect to see Gods and Monsters and, why not, Ghost Recon: Breakpoint, due out later this year.
But we leave the best for last, even if in this case it is little more than science fiction. After the huge amount of rumors accumulated especially in recent times, is it the right time for the official announcement of that secret of Pulcinella that seems to be Bully 2? Because then for heaven’s sake, we would also be satisfied with the announcement of a GTA 6, but you know, we don’t feel like asking too much …
And you? What titles do you expect to see at Gamescom 2019?
