Started promptly Monday 19 August, the Gamescom 2019 Opening Night Live lasted for about two hours, bringing with it a rich haul of announcements and in-depth analysis.
In fact, during the show hosted by Geoff Keighley, there has been space both to discover new aspects of already known productions and to reveal projects still unknown to the public. Numerous titles and projects to mention for both categories. In fact, it was possible to see in action for the first time the Gears 5 campaign mode and the gameplay of Need for Speed: Heat, a project revealed just a few days before the start of the Cologne Fair. First gameplay also for Predator: Hunting Grounds, which was also followed by the announcement of the release date of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt for Nintendo Switch. The event was also a showcase through which to present new details on the Monster Hunter World Iceborne and information on Disintegration, a new project by Halo co-creator. Also Destiny 2: Shadowkeep, Remothered: Broken Porcelain, Life is Strange 2 and FIFA 20.
Abundant contents also in terms of new announcements: during the Opening Night Live, for example, Everspace 2 and Comanche, a new project by THQ Nordic, were unveiled. Rather surprisingly, Little Nightmares 2, Port Royale 4 and Kerbal Space Program 2 were also announced. A new SEGA project was also unveiled by Humankind. Unexpected surprises were also the publication of Erica, an interactive thriller for Playstation 4 announced in 2017, and the announcement of an upcoming Alpha Test for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare.
Finally, Hideo Kojima, who appeared on stage, offered various information related to Death Stranding to close the event. In particular, three different films have been published: two dedicated to the characters of Mama and Deadman and one entirely focused on gameplay. Together these videos, combined with the comments of Kojima himself, allowed the public to discover new details on the mysteries of Death Stranding.
