As you probably know, Rod Fergusson of The Coalition has worked in the past in Irrational Games (from 2012 to 2013) side by side with Ken Levine and this has also had repercussions in Gears 5, so much so that Fergusson himself claims to have been inspired (also) to BioShock Infinite.
Interviewed by GamesRadar, the manager of The Coalition reveals that he ” took inspiration from BioShock Infinite for some aspects of Gears 5 “, particularly with regards to the different approach to fighting: ” in Gears 5 we made sure that it is always the player to start a fight, in previous episodes instead as soon as you entered the viewfinder of a locust this started to fire without mercy. It is an idea changed by BioShock Infinite, it was one of the essential aspects of the production, Ken Levine fought hard to keep this feature in the game. And I myself agreed, so much so that I thought of transferring this concept to Gears 5. “
We remember that Gears 5 will be available from September 10th on Xbox One, Xbox One X and Windows 10 PC, starting September 6th for those who have booked the Ultimate Edition and for Xbox Game Pass Ultimate subscribers. Are you ready to dust off your Lancer? Even Neil Druckmann Naughty Dog seems to have appreciated the work of Rod Fergusson and The Coalition.
