SNK Corporation announced the SNK World Championship, a series of global tournaments that will be played on two titles of the historic Japanese team: Samurai Shodown and The King of Fighters XIV.
The World Championship, as stated, will have a prize pool of almost 86,000 euros and will include regional qualifications that will lead players to compete for the title at the Tokyo world finals which will be held on 28 and 29 March 2020.
Each title will include the 16 best players in the world. The details about the tournament and the qualifier structure have yet to be announced, so we just have to wait a little longer to find out more about this interesting initiative.
Samurai Shodown was released for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One last June and was one of the main beat’em up titles at the Evo 2019. The game, on that occasion, managed to attract a total of 1,719 players registered for the tournament, making it the fourth-largest title based on the number of participants.
The King of Fighters XIV, on the other hand, has existed for three years and was present at the Evo in 2017. To date, the tournaments dedicated to the title have awarded around € 50,000 in prize money. Certainly not big figures compared to other competitive games but still notable for the competitive catchment area.
At the last Evo, however, SNK announced the release of the new chapter (planned for 2020) of the franchise, King of Fighters XV.
