Luminous Productions, Square Enix’s internal team, recently showed the public a tech demo called “BackStage” dedicated to Luminous Engine, the company’s proprietary engine.
The presentation movie showed the potential of the graphic engine, also in view of the now not too distant debut of the next-gen console. Applying the technologies of Ray Tracing and Path Tracing, the demo, or rather short duration, showed a young woman intent on putting on makeup in front of a mirror. During the CEDEC ( Computer Entertainment Developers Conference ) 2019, held recently in Japan, further details were later shared.
In particular, the Square Enix team offered further details regarding the representation of the characters. The Luminous Engine developers have illustrated the possibilities offered by their creation in this sense, highlighting their potential in terms of adapting and modifying the models generated by the scan processes of real people. Among the areas where the team worked most, the realistic rendering of skin and hair was mentioned. At the bottom of this news, you can find some examples of the results generated: what do you think?
To date, Luminous Productions has offered no further details on its development activities, but it has recently been confirmed that the team is working on a new IP AAA next-gen.
