The Witcher, the series will combine fantasy and horror

Julian Parry in an interview with SFX Magazine confirmed that The Witcher will not be a fantasy in the strict sense.

There is a great expectation for the TV series dedicated to the novels of The Witcher, whose debut is scheduled for next December in absolute exclusive on Netflix.

Now, the show’s visual effects manager has announced that the product will be closer to the horror genre than to fantasy.

Here are the words of Julian Parry in an interview with SFX Magazine :

I truly believe that in the end it gets closer to horror. We are putting fantasy aside. I can honestly say that this is not a fantastic story in the strict sense. Or rather it is, but in a sense more connected to the most brutal horror. For example, when talking about striga – a cursed woman forced to live like a monster – it is something scary. It will be very unpleasant!

The streaming giant has announced that the show will be available from  December 20 next. In the series,  Geralt of Rivia will be played by  Henry Cavill, flanked by the sorceress Yennefer ( Anya Chalotra ) and Princess Ciri ( Freya Allan ).
