The singer admitted that it was a very painful time.
A couple of months after the release of her hit “Lose You To Love Me,” Selena Gomez confessed that the theme is inspired by the stormy relationship she had with Justin Bieber.
In an interview with Lulu García, the American singer admitted that the song helped her to close that painful stage of her life.
The controversial couple finally ended in 2018, and shortly afterward Bieber married Hailey Baldwin.
On her most popular song, the former Disney girl commented: “I felt I didn’t have a respectful relationship closure, and I had accepted it, but I know I needed a way of saying some things I wish I had said.”
The 27-year-old artist wanted to make it clear that everything was in the past, and is ready for this new chapter of her life: “It’s not a hate song, but it was very difficult and I’m happy it was over.”
The interpreter of “It ain’t me” confessed that she felt emotionally abused during the relationship: “I am not being disrespectful, but I feel I was the victim of some abuse … I had to find a way to understand him as an adult,” he added.
These revelations agree with what Bieber said in 2019: “I started using (narcotics) and abused all my relationships. I became resentful and disrespectful to women. It took years to recover, fix broken relationships and change habits. ”
