Sony Pictures delayed ‘Morbius’, ‘Uncharted’ and ‘Ghostbusters: Beyond’ to 2021 for the coronavirus

All of the premiers scheduled for these weeks and the following months are being delayed due to the health crisis that is affecting the whole world. Sony Pictures has also been forced to postpone some of their most important titles: ‘Morbius’, ‘Ghostbusters: beyond’ and ‘Uncharted’ have moved their release date to 2021.

Ghostbusters beyond

Sony Pictures has made the decision to postpone its upcoming releases scheduled for this summer until next year, due to the rapid evolution of the pandemic. The sequel of ‘Ghostbusters’ from Jason Reitman premiered in the united States on July 10, 2020 and has been delayed until march 5, 2021date occupied initially by ‘Uncharted’. For its part, ‘Morbius’, starring Jared Leto, is moved to July 31, 2020 and 19 march 2021as informs Variety.

Also ‘Uncharted’, the adaptation of the video game, starring Tom Holland, has become to move your premiere. In the beginning it was expected that the tape is in cinemas on the 18th of December 2020. Later, it was postponed until march 5, 2021, and now it has been moved up to October 8, 2021. The production of the film was scheduled to start to occur a few weeks ago, but had to stop due to the coronavirus. In the beginning of the break in production would be six weekshowever it all depends on how it evolves the situation, because it is likely to be more time.

Sony has pulled out of 2020 practically their most important titles, but they are not the only changes that have been made in the calendar. ‘Peter Rabbit 2: the leak’ has also been passed of the August 7, 2020 to January 15, 2021.

It seems to be that the only movie that instead of falling behind it has been argued, is ‘Fatherhood’, the adaptation of the novel ‘Two kisses for Maddy’ by Matthew Logelin. The tape of Paul Weitz has gone from the January 15, 2021 to October 23, 2020.

What could get Sony with these changes?

It is evident that the changes have been caused by the coronavirus and its stop in the production or post-production, as is the case of ‘Morbius’ and ‘Ghostbusters: beyond’. However, it may be that their redistribution in the calendar of 2021 will benefit you in some way. Can that now the films are in better places than they were. ‘Peter Rabbit 2: the leak’ was premiered in August of this year, and faced full on with a strong competitor of Warner Bros., ‘Wonder Woman ‘1984’, that after delaying the launch of the August 14, 2020. It is possible that this will affect in box office, so it may benefit to get away from that date.

Peter Rabbit

For its part, the change of the date of ‘Morbius’ will be faced with a sequel to ‘Paranormal Activity’, still without name, and against the new movie of Nicolas Cage, ‘The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent’ (‘The unbearable weight of a major talent’). However, you could take advantage of this time to Polish every detail in post-production, and display a result much more care. Like ‘Uncharted’ that, when you move to the end of 2021 has much more room to complete the production.

Also ‘Ghostbusters: beyond’ can be improved with the change of date. If it had been released the next 10 of July would have competed against the film without a title yet in the series ‘The Purge’, which was premiered on the same day. And also against ‘Tenet’, the tape of Christopher Nolan. With the change, away from these larger competitors to face in march 2021 to films from Universal and Warner Bros. still without title.
