The pandemic of coronavirus has been forced to cancel its branch of the women’s Rogers Cup, which this year was held in Montreal.
The Canadian Federation of Tennis announced that the event, which was to take place from the 7th to 16th August, has been left out of the calendar this year.
On Friday, the Government of the province of Quebec announced that it would not allow the realization of sporting events, but until the 31st of August.
“Our priority in the management of this crisis has always been to ensure the safety and well-being of our players, fans, volunteers, partners, and employees,” said Eugene Lapierre, the tournament director in Montreal. “Therefore, with much regret, we received these news, but we understand that this decision was necessary”
The federation said that the competition of women will return to Montreal in August of 2021. The local Bianca Andreescu won the Rogers Cup in 2019, when Serena Williams retired in the first set of the Final by a back injury.
