Health authorities and Tourism published a protocol of attention for tourists who were stranded in hotels during the mandatory quarantine for pandemic COVID-19.
At present different types of guidelines, the director-general of Health Promotion, Ricardo Cortez, explained that there is “a large number of tourists stranded in hotels” of the national territory, either because airlines cancelled their return flights, or because their countries originating (in the case of foreigners) have closed borders.
“These hotels, for humanitarian reasons, shall remain with the service to foreign nationals who require accommodation and need to communicate with their respective performances,” explained the official press conference.

The protocol includes that for the cases of guests by economic activities essential to business travel, “you can have a maximum occupancy of 15% and will require a proof of the company you are working with specifying the branch in which it is, for that the hosting facility can verify that it is one of the branches that are defined as essential activities”.
The protocol also points out that the Secretariats of Tourism of the states in coordination with the national associations of the hotel industry will define “a list of lodging establishments that are intended to concentrate all the national guests and foreigners with respiratory symptoms (Hotel COVID) and foreign guests without respiratory symptoms (Hotel NOT COVID) as they expect the support of their respective governments to the process of repatriation”.

The protocol further states that hotels should apply preferential rates to accommodate foreign visitors with the need of isolation “for a minimum of 14 days, or until further notice from the health authorities”, as well as provisions for staff working at these lodging establishments.
Even states how it must be the disinfection of a room of a suspected case or a confirmed COVID-19, as well as the cleaning process routine.
The authorities also presented protocols for Epidemiological Surveillance, Conversion hospital, for patient care, as well as to the handling of corpses by COVID-19, and the interior of different spaces.
