Los Angeles –

Jennifer Lopez, Taylor Swift and Oprah Winfrey have joined a worldwide transmission special this Saturday, April 18 to recognize the efforts of front-line workers against the coronavirus outbreak, said Tuesday the organizers.

The event “One World Together “at Home”a combination of music, comedy and stories from doctors, nurses and grocery workers, also announced another event for more than six hours, which will include appearances from sports stars like Lewis Hamilton, Megan Rapinoe and the skier Lindsey Vonn together with singers, actors and popular people in social networks.

The event from April 18 will precede the two-hour program that airs across multiple tv networks of north american and international on the Saturday night, in the biggest event so far to show solidarity with the health workers.

All who participate in the event, organized by the World Health Organization (WHO) and the group Global Citizen, appear remote due to the social distancing and closures intended to reduce the spread of the disease that has killed more than 124 000 people in around the world.

“Our hope for the special is that everyone go out believing that we, as a shared humanity, we can come out of this moment forever grateful for the work of doctors, nurses, teachers, grocery workers and all those who are the backbone of our communities,” he said in a press release Hugh Evans, co-founder and executive director of the Global Citizen.

Lady Gaga announced the event last week, but has since been expanded and now includes some of the most famous in the world, such as Celine Dion, Billie Eilish, John Legend, Elton John, Paul McCartney, Chris Martin, Andrea Bocelli and Michael Bubble.

Although the special is not to raise funds, it also aims to encourage philanthropists and companies to contribute to the Fund of Solidarity Response Covid-19 of the WHO.

Gaga said last week that it had raised more than $ 35 million of large companies.

“When we go to the air on 18 April, save your wallet, your credit card and any thing you need, and sit back to enjoy the show that you all deserve,” said Gaga in a press conference last week. (I)
