“Wildflower was the wildcard of the album. A song that has opened new avenues for the band to explore. The most important thing is that it feels good to listen to it and disconnect it for a minute. I really feel that this video reflects this, and we hope that you all enjoy it!” – Calum Hood
“Our original plan for the music video Wildflower consisted of a large budget, a full staff and a study giant. But was cancelled due to the coronavirus and we were forced to do something in the difficult conditions of the quarantine. Michael had a green screen in his cupboard, so I thought that might be enough to do something. Given that the song has a tone quite distinctive from the 80s and 90s, I came up with the idea of making a music video to the MTV-style of that time. A ‘music video as a curtain of musical’, one of the things with which I grew up and loved. So we went to a green screen, disinfected (with the help of our teammate Kat Gallagher), and all filmed their parts at home with an iPhone and then sent me the images. Meanwhile, Sarah Eiseman and I started working in the art of video. We quickly learned animation, we draw various colorful flowers, and we also create the background colors using milk and food coloring. Then I spent the following days and nights editing non-stop until I have bled out the eyes and completed the video. Definitely has pushed us to create something you normally would not do, using only our brains and our hands”. – Andy DeLuca (director)
Launched on the 27th of march, C A L M debuted at #2 on the Billboard 200.
5 Seconds of Summer (5SOS) shares a new single dynamic called “Wildflower“. Produced by Oscar Görres (NAVY, Troys Sivan), “Wildflower” is the latest advancement of the new album 5SOS, C A L Mwhich will come out this Friday through Interscope Records.
Written with Rami Yacoub (Nicki Minaj, Ariana Grande) and Geoff Warburton (Shawn Mendes, Quinn XCII), “Wildflower“it’s a song inspired by the pop of the 80’s but no doubt with a vision of the future, with an energy driven by the harmonies, massive 5SOS and the beats powerful. In a move particularly bright, “Wildflower“find 5SOS omitting deliberately certain words of the lyrics of the chorus, amplifying the powerful yet euphoric state of mind of the romantic tension.
“We wanted to make the chorus a kind of ‘choose your own adventure’, where some words are left out and accentuated by these large stabs of synthesizer”, explains the bassist Calum Hood. “It allows everyone to have their own interpretation and complete what they believe could be those missing letters“.
