The new film Eric England spends a lot of time trying to look like film noir but devotes very little to actually function as such. Input, your trite approach -in a southern town, a lonely man develops an inappropriate relationship with a teenage newcomer who does succumb to his charms- promises to intrigue and criminal emotions that never come to materialize, in part because the stakes are formal of movie at any time contributes to reflect the atmosphere of darkness that England intended to. And also their characters are nothing more than stereotypes too common in the genre -the man taciturn of dark past, the nymphet with a vocation of ‘femme fatale’- to be truly effective, so it is a feel interest for them despite the work on time inspired by the actress Sophie Turner. The film doesn’t show any interest in exploring the trauma that the two protagonists carry, and instead are limited to using them as a pretext to offer a plot twist end of all illogical and absurd that some spectators will arrive too far in advance and make all the others feel cheated.
