Listening to “The New Abnormal”the new album of the StrokesI realize why I was so enthusiastic about in his time “Is This It”.
Simply because they are a band huge, and this sixth disc in their discography looks like to become another classic, after that each member of the band to pass some time on other personal projects.
Seven years after “Comedown Machine” 2013, The Strokes are back.
The disc is produced by Rick Rubin, (Beastie Boys, LL Cool J, Public Enemy, Adele, Linkin Park, AC/DC, Kanye West, Johnny Cash, The Avett Brothers, Tom Petty, Justin Timberlake, Metallica, Slayer, System of A Down, Rage Against The Machine, Red Hot Chili Peppers…) these new songs have been recorded in the Studies Shangri-La in Malibu, and while when listening to it takes you a bit to “Is This It”immediately perceive sounds and movements directed towards other territories as electro-pop, post-punk and much of the 80’s. I think Julian Casablancas sings like never.
It seems that many people who has heard the disc, perceived influences, and tributes to icons such as Billy Idol , Lou Reed and the The Velvet Undergroundand the truth is that “Dancing With Myself” of Billy Idol it is more than a reference to “Bad Decisions”the fourth theme of “The New Abnormal”
The cover is a painting of one of my favorite artists, the neoexpresionista Jean-Michel Basquiat,
late in 1988, added his name unfortunately to that fateful club of the 27.
The work titled Bird On Money serves cover for “The New Abnormal”.
It is a great example of the painting of Basquiat. Here, the artist that was a legend of the street art of New Yorkit pays tribute to one of his heroes, the jazz musician Charlie Parker. With his personal style portrays Charlie Parker as a fowl or a bird, a nickname “bird”for that Parker it was commonly known. On the right side of the drawing are the words in Spanish “To Die”.
In short, everything a pleasure and a marvel new The Strokes ,“The New Abnormal”.
