While the contract in the UCM of Don Cheadle may be over, the actor should return in Captain Marvel 2 to see the team formed by Carole Danvers and War Machine
Don Cheadle is joined for the first time to the Movie Universe of Marvel as Colonel James ‘Rhodey’ Rhodes in Iron Man 2 in 2010, in replacement of the actor Terrence Howard. Since then, he has appeared in multiple films from Marvel Studios, Iron Man 3, Captain America: Civil War and also joined the fight against the Titan mad Thanos in Avengers: Infinity Warand he helped save the universe in Avengers: Endgame. Now, after ten years, the contract of the actor with Marvel has been finished. However, as all fans know, that doesn’t mean you will never see again War Machine in the UCM.
After all, other actors such as Robert Downey, Jr. and Chris Evans extended their contracts with Marvel for new appearances. And although Rhodey is not the most important member of the Avengers, it is still a character with a lot of potential for exploit. But, where could you appear no more Iron Man films or The Avengers currently planned? It is still a mystery. However, it happens that the arc of the character could take it to the space in Captain Marvel 2.
In Avengers: Endgame, Rhodey joined the mightiest heroes of the Earth in their mission to travel back in time and get the gems for the infinity of the past. Rhodey teamed with Nebula, on the planet Morag to get the power gem before that Peter Quill had the opportunity to do so. It was a short mission for him, but even so this led him to the character of the cosmos, very far from where it started. In addition, in Endgame, the fans also saw a hint of a spark between Rhodey and Carol Danvers during his briefing session with Natasha Romanoff. They could have been worlds away, but Carol still took the time to wish luck to Rhodey in his last mission on Earth.
The look between the two could not have been nothing, or it could have been a nod to the respect shared by the two characters because they both have a history of the u.s. military. But then again, it could also mean the first seeds for a relationship. After all, in the comics, Carol Danvers and James Rhodes have engaged in a romance in the last few years. In fact, they are currently one of the couples most stable of Marvel, despite the fact that the adventures of Carol often the wear away of the Earth. Since the couple is such an important part of the modern comics of Marvel, it would be great to see the relationship adapted on the big screen. Given that Carol and Rhodey are already known fairly well, you could ask for help on any threat that is in front in Captain Marvel 2.
In Phase 3 of the UCM, Marvel saw the potential to unite characters in movies alone. Tony Stark is joined by Peter Parker in Spider-Man: Homecoming, Thor and the Hulk are joined in Thor: Ragnarok and Scott Lang and Hope Van Dyne have joined forces in Ant-Man and the Wasp. It is logical that the trend will continue in Stages 4 and 5. Join Captain Marvel War Machine would be an interesting combination between the old and new guards of the Avengers, and would allow Rhodey to shine in a different environment.
In addition to that, the character still has the armor of Iron Patriot that she was not to be seen in Avengers: Endgame. The two are already practically ready to form a team, and with Iron Man gone, it would be good to see that there are still a superhero shielded in the UCM that holds the Earth and the cosmos safe from all kinds of threats.
