Until two years ago not many knew his name. Lizzo. Today, this singer born in the city of Detroit, united States, has won (and surely will continue to do) a wide musical terrain through a message of empowerment and self-respect. But, in this journey, the road to self-discovery has not been easy and she knows it. “Do it for me”, I clearly says. “I have a great past of not enjoying my body, my personality, and myself. Then, I no longer wanted that. I started to celebrarme. If other people are learning from it and being empowered by that, is amazing. But this message has been important, especially, because it was I who needed it,” says the singer. Back seem to have been the times in which Lizzo wandering in search of an opportunity and with the idea of forming a band.
Being aware that the success obtained up to now has been a gradual process and not immediate, Lizzo has obtained great popularity as a singer and rapper, with lyrics so direct and powerful, and with a discourse based on a “relentless positivity,” as described by Rolling Stone magazine. In exclusive, Lizzo tells us about her trip up here.
Who is Lizzo?
To the naked eye, Lizzo seems to have deciphered who it is. However, I quickly pulls out of that error. “It is a process of life. You have to get to know you and explorarte completely to know who you are. It’s exciting not to know everything about you. So no, I don’t know who I am. But it is definitely different from who he was yesterday or who I will be tomorrow. And I think you just have to learn to enjoy it and stop being afraid of him,” he says.
“Women have always wanted to raise their voices, but the industries have not allowed you to be heard. I think this is the first time in a long time, that industries are becoming responsible for the marginalization of women’s voices.
How many Grammy awards has won Lizzo?
Last January, after eight nominations, Lizzo took home three Grammy awards and, during his speech as Best Pop Solo Performance, talked about the need and the search for a music that frees the people. Those words resonated clear and precise among the crowd present, and it is just that the way she has been released. “Create music frees me and this music, hopefully, release to others”, he says to me.
Lizzo and the power of women in the music industry
This message coincides with one that the fashion industry is trying to send: one about respect and inclusion. “Women have always wanted to raise their voices, but the industries have not allowed you to be heard. I think this is the first time in a long time, that industries are becoming responsible for the marginalization of women’s voices. So, let’s see what happens. We simply cannot stay silent or be silenced more”.
The singer Lizzo talks about body positivity
It is precisely in the midst of this movement that Lizzo has learned to embrace her body. In June of 2019, he spoke for the first time about his mental health and depression through its account of Instagram. “Embrace our body is difficult, but it is completely natural. For me, it was complicated but it was a personal decision. Get out of that hatred of ourselves is a very difficult process. It took Me years of work and I’m still in it. Each day is a new challenge and a new attempt,” he says.
If now everything is about being individual and different, it is because we are moving as a society and that is exciting.”

Now, people talk about it. The media speak of it and, from that place, Lizzo takes to continue to build on their own ideas and criteria. “For a long time I enjoyed the act of dressing. Feel beautiful. It is something that for me is not new, although, perhaps, for the fashion industry is. But it is not the fashion who is making that change, it is the people. And that is something that we learned, that the industry was not creating different sizes and therefore, it is needed that individuals who challenge them and create garments for themselves and that made the industry to move in that direction. The fashion industry will always continue to the step to the people. If now everything is about being individual and different, it is because we are moving as a society and that is exciting.”
The message most inspiring of Lizzo
At the end of our conversation I only have one more question for her: what we’re missing? “The reader. You faults. Where are you? Search for your place in the fashion and search for your place in the music. When you see yourself reflected in one of these industries, finally that missing piece will be filled. I don’t I was there for a long time and that’s why I settled into the conversation. Now, I feel part of the big leagues. Then, you are reading this we’re missing. Find”.
