James Charles: the End of a ‘youtuber’ 19: it would be even funny if so much nonsense do not bear directly fear | ICON

I’ve always envied the journalists of beauty, surrounded by pleasant smells, blushes brand new and eternal smiles. On bad days, giving me a tour of the plant cosmetic of a large warehouse calming my discouragement. Maybe that’s why I find it hard to believe that in the paradise of the basis of makeup there is also the mud. But there is.

James Charles, a celebrity on the shadow here and shadow there, recently starred in one of those soap operas cyber with his summary trial as symptomatic of this delirious time. I, in truth, knew nothing of this guru of the beauty of 19 years until now, when it has rushed to empty from your olympus influencer millionaire. His fame started on Instagram, where his tricks to change (cat eyes, perfect eyebrow began to cause a furor.

His YouTube channel he catapulted to stardom with videos reaching up to 20 million visits. With 17 years he became the first guy that was the face of a makeup brand, Covergirl. He also launched his own firm. With her androgynous look, the videos of Charles always begin with a hysterical “Hello, sisters!”, emblem of the house. He lived for their moment of true glory global in the last Met gala, dedicated to the campwhere with make-up that was transmogrified his face of a child he rubbed shoulders with the fashion elite. That day touched the ceiling.

In a few hours, three million users were low in the channel of the makeup artist, the accusations of alleged harassment surfaced, the firms associated with it began to withdraw their contracts, and famous admirers pressed the button “stop following”

What came next is a scandal that I will try to summarize. It all started when her old friend and mentor, Tati Westbrook, another videobloguera, 37, hung up a monologue of 43 minutes entitled Good-bye, sister. In him, with a tone of sweet kitten (“dear, I do so for your own good”), accused him of not being the same because of the money and the fame. He was followed by an endless litany (“I am a influencer, a creator, and I have to speak loud and clear”), which sets out a series of bad practices among videoblogueras (mostly indecipherable to anyone outside of that business) until you reach the heart of the matter: in the birthday party Westbrook, James harassed a straight man. “In front of all of my children, I had to apologize the next day… and this is not done… you need help, James… And, to be clear, I don’t hate James, Charles, will I always want to”. What is not said is that he felt betrayed because Charles had touted the vitamins from a brand opponent.

In a few hours, three million users were low in the channel of the makeup artist, the accusations of alleged harassment surfaced, the firms associated with it began to withdraw their contracts, and famous fans like Miley Cyrus and Kylie Jenner pressed the button “stop following”. The debacle was underway. Charles responded with another video, dramatic, without make-up, with goggles and air destroyed. Apologized (false according to the analysis of facial done by another channel) with the same sentimentality cheap of her mentor: “She has been a mother to me, your family has given me love and opportunities, a shoulder on which to cry…”.

In the final minute (this time the one thing, fortunately, barely lasted nine), the make-up artist turns to his mother and, bathed in tears, he shoots the action: “Mom, I know that you want to defend myself, I am so grateful to you and all you do for us, I need you to know”. None of this should cause us to lose even a minute of our time, but it is only the video of Tati Westbrook received in a short time to 40 million visits. It would be even funny if so much nonsense do not bear directly fear. Personally, I will continue trusting in the goodness of the plant of the opportunities of a large surface area.
