New York, 26 mar (EFE).- After signing up to the young congressman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and the actor Lin-Manuel Miranda, in the city of New York opted for the rapper Cardi B to encourage the minority Latin and black to participate in the census, held every ten years in United Statesand that marks the federal aid and political representation of each state in the federal Congress.

In a message in Spanish and another in English, the singer of dominican descent, says: “the future is in your hands”, while gesturing frantically with his hands decorated with its characteristic long fingernails, which leads painted green.

“The 2020 census determines how much power, money and respect of our communities of the city,” he says before pointing out that the minority “black” and “browns”, in reference to the Latin americans, have always been “invisible” and never have been counted correctly.

“The census is for everyone regardless of your immigration status. My people, this”, concludes Cardi B with a twinkle in his eye.

In the English version, the language in which Cardi B is expressed with greater comfort, argues that if not well done, the census, the city will be underrepresented for the next ten years.

As he explains, only 62 percent of new yorkers responded to the census in 2010, the year in which the communities of black and latino were the least participated.

“We can’t allow this again to happen in 2020, so if you want to get up in front of the status quo and the five people you are the power and that we want to silence begins” by filling in the census, says the singer.

Last February it was the turn of Ocasio-Cortez and Lin-Manuel Miranda, who released another promotional video to encourage the immigrant community, in the politics of puerto rican origin he pretended to be a teacher, and Miranda, one of the students of a classroom full of students of different nationalities.

Authorities and NGOS have expressed concern that a large part of the broad immigrant community that resides in New York refrain for fear that their data end up in the hands of the migration services, which have stepped up their efforts to repatriate undocumented immigrants.

The campaign kicked off on the 12th of march and can be completed by telephone or through the internet at the address “ny2020census.gov”.

According to several studies estimated, the new census could mean for New York’s loss of two representatives to the Congress of the united States, and the authorities of the state, Democratic majority, take months trying to raise awareness among the population to participate in the survey population.
