The young activist Swedish Greta Thunberg and his movement against climate change Fridays for Future that follow kids from all over the planet has inspired even a children’s opera. It has happened in Catalonia. The composer Joan Vives (Barcelona, 1953) was commissioned by the Auditori de Granollers taking the natural disaster as a theme for a children’s opera that was to be sung by kids, and it just so happened that at that time it jumped to the present Thunberg…
The news did not stop to talk of a teenager who had made a speech at the United Nations and had put back and half the politicians. In addition, had left school and protested before the parliament of Sweden. That was mine to Live, as the chorus Veus – Amics de la Unió for creating the piece were singers aged 12 to 18 years.
‘Greta, i els Trihumans’ speaks of a society is dystopian of the year 3000 to find out how we charge the planet”
“It was then when we think about incorporating to Greta plot,” says the composer
Greta i els Trihumans
. Talks with the journal by making a halt in his task of study, since these days last to the soundtrack of the series Hit for TVE. What was that plot? “The first idea was to create a future society and dystopian of the year 3333 from that we could have a historical perspective of how we are currently uploading the planet,” he explains.
These Trihumanos would be individuals trained by three, which allows to distinguish them from the human and in addition compose fragments that are sung by three voices. “It is a society in which everything is sung, because the people have found that talking about everything is misunderstood. And if always are threealways agree, never can match… although in the end we also see that it is very boring this society, is not discussed and everything is very eco-friendly…”
The Trihumanos is a society in which everything is sung, because the people have proven that talking all misunderstood”
But not anticipemos events. What is the role of Greta in all of this?
It turns out that this society is in a excavations archaeological a strange object, and he manages to decrypt it. This object is no other than the mobile phone of Greta Thunbergthat in the years twenty of the TWENTY-first century used it to record a blog-diary explaining your life and your impressions and thoughts about the world around her.
With this information, the Trihumanos discover the “peculiar” form of operate that had the human, understand how they relate, how they evolved, how they are falling in love, are playing –we needed two humans interacting and one of them brewed for nine months!– and also how it is fought.
Greta was wearing a sort of journal of the ecological catastrophe that he was suffering from the planet. “Through dreams, appears to him a million species in danger of extinction… and what we show on stage,” adds the composer.
It should be noted that, although stylistically this work go to horse between the opera and the musical, Greta i els Trihumans it would be the operatic debut of Joan Vives… if it was not because 40 years ago premiered at the Romea, the first rock opera in Catalan, The farm animalon the classic orwellian.
The biggest challenge, says Vives, was to give coherence to the libretto, which has been created together with the writer Piti Spanish. “We find that it was an unfinished history,” he says. “The end of Greta… is abrupt. The images of the cell shown to the people in the Friday for Future raising the banners… and we do not know if it is that he ran out of the battery to the device or is that the civilization of the years 2000, exploded in that instant in which the recording ends”.
The piece was premiered the weekend of the 28th and 29th of march in the Teatre Auditori in Granollers, which is, together with the city Council of the city and the formation Veus – Cor Infantil Amics de la Unió, which drives every two years, along with the Orquestra de Cambra of the town, the creation of an opera original. This is already the eighth.
Veus – Cor Infantil Amics de la Unió is a choir that was born 1968 within the Societat Coral Amics de la Unió de Granollers. Directed by Josep Vila i Jover since 1995, presents his own productions and he collaborates with important scenarios. They are joined in this production, the Petits Cantors Amics de la Unió, the Cor d alumnes de 4t CEIP Joan Solans, and the Cor d alumnes de 4t CEIP Ferrer i Guàrdia, both of Granollers.
The score is written in principle up to 25 instruments, and so you will hear it in the premiere with the Orquestra de Cambra de Granollers, while the own living is adapting to less musicians -15 in the post-school functions– and it can even be 4 or 5, using keyboards to recreate the sound of acoustic instruments. That will end up being a formula is necessary if you want to take the production on tour.
