The YouTube star and the influencer of beauty James Charles will launch a reality competition show in the style of Project Runway, in which shall elect a promising makeup artist as a winner of a cash prize of $ 50,000.
The program, titled “James Charles Instant Influencer”, will debut in the spring of 2020 on the YouTube channel of Charles with episodes to be released weekly. Charles will be the host, producer, director, and executive series.
YouTube is funding the four-part series as part of its strategy of original refurbished, focusing less on fees with scripts and more in the content of personality, music, and learning, with all the original programming available in the free service with advertising.
“Since I entered the space of beauty three years ago, I dreamed of producing my own show of beauty,” said Charles to Variety. “This is a dream come true, it’s an incredible opportunity for YouTube to take it beyond what we expected.”
Charles, 20 years of age and resident in Los Angeles, was the first speaker male of CoverGirl and is among the makeup artists most popular on YouTube, currently with 16.3 million subscribers on your channel. It also has 15.9 million followers on Instagram and 4.3 million on Twitter.
From November 15, aspiring contestants can apply in jamescharlescasting.com to be considered for the program. The entry is available to u.s. residents 18 years and older to have a channel of active beauty on YouTube. The creators must send a request before the 21 November to midnight that includes a link to YouTube video that shows her skills of makeup.
Out of the group of applicants, Charles and his production team will choose six finalists, who will be flown to Los Angeles and participate in different challenges on the program for Charles and several judges, celebrity guests and industry veterans.
“The goal is to choose a person that I think will bring something positive to the community,” said Charles. “It was important for me to do that were really true how it works the community of influencers of beauty”.
Charles said he is looking for “micro-influencers” of beauty that are publishing content of active form: “people who are already working hard but who still have not discovered”.
For YouTube, the program is another bet to take advantage of YouTubers native and local to drive what the video site hopes to be a large audience. “James Charles is a leader in the industry when it comes to overcoming the limits with creative content,” said Susanne Daniels, global director of original content for YouTube, in a statement. “We are delighted that James is contributing his energy and talent to our list of original YouTube with our first series of beauty contests”.

The program of the competition is being produced by Brian Graden Media, which is behind the original series of YouTube “Escape the Night”, presented by the YouTube star Joey Graceffa. Charles said that is a friend of Graceffa and contacted the company to develop the project. The show is run by Charles and his manager, Jake Walsh.
Earlier this year, Charles became involved in a controversy with the vlogger of beauty Tati Westbrook, who accused him of behavior objectionable. After that the problem arose in may, the YouTube channel of Charles, lost millions of subscribers; subsequently apologized to Westbrook (and his fans) before they recover their counts of subscriptions in YouTube.
