If you’ve read ‘Dune’ or you’ve seen the movie that David Lynch shot in 1984, you already know what’s going on. If not, just like you’ve been seeing photos of Zendaya and Timothée Chalamet strolling in plan emo by a desert and you wonder what is this all about. Quiet, that will tell you everything… about everything that relates to Jason Momoa, Oscar Isaac, Javier Bardem, Charlotte Rampling, Rebecca Ferguson and Stellan Skarsgård, stars of this new version of the novel Frank Herbert.
‘Dune’, the new film from Denis Villeneuve (‘The arrival’, ‘Blade Runner 2049’), is a classic of science fiction, a kind of ‘Game of thrones’ the space that develops on a desert planet. Has to be the main hero to Paul Atreides, teenage son of a noble house fall from grace turned into the messiah of the fremen, a nomadic tribe a tad fanatical, riding giant worms, and knows the secret of the spice melange, the substance most coveted (and addictive) of the galaxy, which only happens on that planet. In the frame play an important role Harkonnen, sworn enemies of the Atreides, and the Bene Gesserita sisterhood of ladies with license to kill and a mission long-term genetic.
Zendaya and Chalamet, love among the dunes
Dune is a story of religious, philosophical and political. But it is also the chronicle of a romance unexpected between Paul and Chani, a fremen. The duke and the commoner, the urbanite and the girl of the desert, the boy raised between rainfall and the teenager who has been forbidden to cry, to save water. The thing, what we already see, is high-voltage, sentimental, and more when it brings together two icons of the intensity teen as Zendaya (‘Euphoria’, ‘Spiderman’) and Timothée Chalamet (‘Call me by your name’, ‘little women’).
Philosophy Atreides, version Momoa
The story begins when the Atreides travel to Dune to start to rule the planet, already knowing that the order has trick and that you are going to see this as a betrayal. The duke Leto is nothing less than Oscar Isaac (Poe Dameron in Star Wars) and his entourage are Josh Brolin (Gurney Halleck) and, above all, our beloved Jason Momoa (‘Game of thrones’, ‘Aquaman’) that it embodies, this time without his characteristic beard, the master of the fencing and eternal seducer Duncan Idaho.
Word of the Bene Gesserit
The concubine (not a wife) of the duke is Lady Jessica (Rebecca Ferguson), a bene gesserit who has disobeyed the mission that was given to the Atreides: to conceive a daughter (yes, the bene gesserit can do that) to be able to marry her off to the firstborn of the Harkonnen and approach to the genetic mix final that the brotherhood seeks from generations ago. The anger that puts the mother superior Gaius Helen Mohiam (an always fantastic Charlotte Rampling), with the threat of death to your child included, is that they are not forgotten.
Javier Bardem and the wisdom of the desert
One of the changes most discussed film in relation to the book is that the character of Kynes, the planetólogo fremen, has been turned into a woman for the occasion: Sharon Duncan-Brewster (‘Rogue One’, ‘Years and years’).
The Spanish spectators, in addition, they will be especially excited to see our Javier Bardem as Stilgar, the leader fremen father of Chani.
Territory Harkonnen: Stellan Skarsgård, and the Guardians of the Galaxy
The villains of the story are Harkonnenand most especially, your head of the family, the baron Vladimir, played by an always-artful Stellan Skarsgård. Dave Bautistaan actor with experience in roles of killer without mercy (‘Guardians of the galaxy’) will be his brutal nephew Rabban, and one of the big unknowns of the film is the actor who interpreted to also evil, but much more handsome cousin of Rabban, Feyd Rautha, that in the version of Lynch was the singer Sting.
