Auction at Christie’s to raise funds for research on coronavirus

The auction house Christie’s will organize an auction in June to raise funds for research on the disease covid-19 in the name of the charity amfAR, which had to cancel its famous gala, an event world-renowned is done on the sidelines of the Cannes film Festival.

All funds raised will go to this new fund to amfAR recently created.

A series of works, some never displayed in public, were donated by collectors as well as by the artists themselves, said this on Monday, Christie’s said in a statement.

The exact date of the auction, entitled “From the Studio” (From the workshop), was not announced but it will coincide with the big auctions in the spring of Christie’s in New York, which have been postponed to the week of June 22.

The list of works on sale will be announced in may.

The amfAR was founded in 1985 in the united States under the presidency of the actress Elizabeth Taylor. Since then, it has invested more than $ 550 million in research programs on aids, thanks to donations.

Last year, the gala of amfAR and its auction raised $ 15 million in the presence of celebrities like the singer Mariah Carey, or the model Kendall Jenner. The entrance cost us $ 13,000 per person.

Le gala is organized every year in Antibes, France, on the sidelines of the Cannes film Festival, but this year was cancelled in the wake of the pandemic.
