The director explains why this benchmark.

The vision of Denis Villeneuve in the classic science fiction novel Duneinsurance , we will offer a story just as introspective in his characters, but with scales epic in their events, as it has done with other tapes as Hitman, The arrival or Blade Runner 2049. But speaking of characters, Villeneuve told Empire the protagonist of this story, Paul Atreides, played by Timothée Chalamet, has some similarities with Michael Corlenoe of the trilogy The godfather, to whom he gave life Al Pacino.

The director says that this comparison is at the beginning of the arc dramatic that the character of Chalamet will have in the long-awaited movie, and this is very similar to that of the mobster experience in the tapes Francis Ford Coppola.

“Paul has been raised in an environment that is extremely strict with a lot of training, because he is the son of a duke and a day… in training to be the duke. But by far that has been prepared and trained for that role, is it really what you dream to be? That is the contradiction of that character. It’s like Michael Corleone in The godfather: is someone that has a destination very tragic and it will become something that you did not want to become”.

But despite the dark background that he expected to live to the protagonist of Dune, Villeneuve says that he also become the man in the story

“Your survival depends on being able to make the right decisions and adapt to different dangerous situations. It is a very beautiful story about someone who empowers. Like any young adult, searches for his identity and tries to understand their place in the world, and you will have to do things that none of their ancestors could do to survive. It has a beautiful quality of being curious about other people, having empathy, something that will attract you to other cultures, and that is what will save your life.”

Without doubt, the words of the director do nothing more than continue to generate curiosity for what we see in the epic space Dune, whose first part is scheduled for release in December of this year, with a cast that includes Timothée Chalamet, Zendaya, Rebecca Ferguson, Oscar Isaac, Josh Brolin and Jason Momoa.
