Nick Cannon explains why he felt that he had to go to Minneapolis

(CNN) — Nick Cannon explains why he felt he had to go to Minneapolis and join the protests against the death of George Floyd.

The actor and musician spoke about his decision in an article published in Variety.

“I needed to see the people of this community: how much love they had for their community and their people and how much pain has caused this,” wrote Cannon. “We feel that the pain is spread all over the world: the anger and the pain. Those images will never fade from our minds,” he added.

Cannon published strong images of the protests on Instagram.

“What we need is a new normal, a new paradigm. I want us to focus on our humanity and desmantelemos the racist that you don’t need to perpetuate the crimes of inequality and oppress communities of color all across our country. We have to dismantle all of the systems on which we built this country,” wrote Cannon.

He also said that their own children, the children also Mariah Carey, are afraid of the Police.

“If we’re going to talk about what the solutions are, there has to be a complete overhaul of not just the Police Department but the Police in general,” wrote Cannon. “I think that would begin by deleting the word ‘police’. Why be a police officer when you can be an agent of peace? When you see a police officer, you are supposed to feel safe. They are supposed to protect you. My children are afraid of police officers. In their minds, they are the bad guys,” he explained.

However, Cannon wrote that he sees a path to progress.

“I’m finding signs of hope in the mayors of Minneapolis and St. Paul”, he wrote. “To see them respond immediately, with care and compassion was the right thing. I saw much pain and disillusionment in its application of the law. Being in the 38th and Chicago and see people crying in the monument was more disappointing than anything else. They did not think that something like this could happen in Minneapolis. But it did happen. This is what is the united States. If this could happen in Minneapolis, it can happen in Georgia and in Los Angeles and in New York,” he added.
