Plane disappears and may have crash-landed at sea

A twin-engine plane disappeared last night in open sea between the cities of Ubatuba (SP) and Paraty (RJ), according to the Rio de Janeiro Fire Department. The teams were called around 23:45 to respond to the incident. This morning, the Brazilian Air Force informed that it found wreckage that could be from the missing aircraft.

The rescue action is still taking place and receives support from the São Paulo Fire Department. They were called to provide support during the night. According to the corporation, the occurrence would be to attend to “technical problems” in an aircraft.

Firefighters said the pilot’s relatives got in touch, warning that the vehicle was in trouble. There is a suspicion that the plane would have made an emergency landing in the waters. However, the teams are still searching to locate the occupants and clarify the disappearance.

On social networks, the mother and girlfriend of José Porfírio Júnior, who would be the co-pilot of the aircraft, claim that they stopped receiving news of the young man at around 9 pm. They allege that he was accompanied by the pilot and another passenger and that they would have fallen 15 kilometers off the coast.

In a video sent to “Bom Dia SP”, the mother, Ana Regina, stated that she has already moved to Paraty to help with the searches.

“We arrived in Paraty now, at 5:00 am. We heard about the plane crash yesterday at 9:10 pm. All the organs were activated to carry out the search. Everything was wrong, one knew nothing, the other didn’t know anything either. the captaincy of ports, various agencies, Salvaero… The search was only going to start this morning, because it was not under the jurisdiction of either”, he said.

She also stated that she will rent a boat to get to where the aircraft would have disappeared. “The helicopter would leave the air base at 3 am because the team had to be activated. It had a breakdown and only left at 4:17 am. It arrived here and we are going to try to rent a boat and go to the coordinates that told us about the fall.”

The Air Force Command informed in a note sent to the UOL that the Curitiba Aeronautical Rescue Coordination Center (ARCC-CW), a unit of the Brazilian Air Force responsible for coordinating air search operations in the region, was notified last night of the aircraft’s disappearance.

Searches began at 4:15 am today, wearing night vision goggles. At around 6:35 am, the Brazilian Air Force located debris at sea that, according to the agency, are likely to be from the missing aircraft. “The location was transferred to the maritime search agencies and the flights continue”, the note concludes.

O UOL got in touch with the copilot’s mother and girlfriend for more information and is awaiting feedback.
