According to the Municipal Health Department (SMS), the initiative aims to convene the population to keep the vaccination schedule up to date, preventing the reappearance of diseases that had already been eradicated thanks to vaccination.

“It is alarming to realize that we are in a very worrying scenario, with expansion of pediatric beds for children with very serious cases, when we have a wide spectrum of protection through vaccines that could avoid this situation”, emphasizes Health Secretary Ana Estela Leite .

In the municipal network, 14 vaccines are offered to children: BCG, Hepatitis B, Rotavirus, Pentavalent, Inactivated Polio, Pneumococcal 10 Brave, Meningitis C, Triple Viral, Hepatitis A, Chickenpox, Oral Polio, Triple Bacterial (DTP), Yellow Fever and also HPV (for girls between nine and 14 years of age).

For teenagers, five vaccines are available: ACWY, Triple Viral, Hepatitis B, Double Bacterial – Diphtheria and Tetanus, and also HPV (for boys aged 11 to 14).

In 2022, the vaccination coverage of the main vaccines in the childhood calendar (BCG, rotavirus, pentavalent, pneumococcal, polio, meningococcal and MMR) is at 65%, a number considered below the target, which is 90 to 95%, as stipulated by the Ministry of Health. Ministry of Health.

Vaccination against Influenza

As of Monday (2), Fortaleza begins the second phase of the Influenza vaccination campaign, covering the following audiences:

  • pregnant women
  • puerperal women
  • teachers
  • patients with comorbidities
  • people with permanent disability
  • truck drivers
  • urban and long-distance public transport workers
  • port workers
  • security and rescue forces
  • armed forces
  • employees of the deprivation of liberty system
  • population deprived of liberty and adolescents and young people in socio-educational measures

“The Influenza vaccine must be taken annually, through the inclusion of new strains, and the population needs to protect itself against new mutations of the virus, avoiding more serious cases that can lead to hospitalizations and deaths. Anyone who was vaccinated in January of this year with the 2021 vaccine should be vaccinated again”, said Vanessa Soldatelli, SMS immunization coordinator.

This year, the change occurred in the H3N2 strain, included in 2022. In addition to it, the vaccine protects against H1N1 and Influenza B. Until last Sunday (24), 66,890 doses of the immunobiological were applied, which corresponds to only 10% of the first stage goal.
