Mortal Kombat 3 already mentioned character only appeared years later

The late Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3 marked the memory of fans of the franchise, without a doubt. Released in 1995, the version had a few more playable characters compared to the base title, such as Scorpion, Rain and Noob Saibot.

Noob Saibot specifically stood out for being insanely powerful. The famous “shadow” thrown by the character finished off any enemy — and his combos were pretty easy.

More important than some very useful special moves, however, is the fact that the ending of Noob Saibot mentioned an extremely important character to the Mortal Kombat universe: Shinnok.

“At first a passive observer, Noob Saibot would soon be ordered to side with the terrible Emperor Shao Kahn. Saibot’s leaders in the NetherRealm wanted him to join the battle of Kahn to gain the Emperor’s trust and enter the realm of Earth”, appears in the text that appears after the player completes the Noob Saibot story.

“When Kahn lets his guard down, Noob Saibot is ordered to attack. With the Earth realm and the Emperor of Outworld defeated, the fallen elder god known as Shinnok can take both realms and gain the power he needs to strike back at the elder gods who banished him to the Netherealm”, concludes the text.

So yes: Shinnok was already mentioned in Mortal Kombat 3, even if he would only appear in the controversial Mortal Kombat Mythologies: Sub-Zero. Not only that, Shinnok also made history in Mortal Kombat by becoming the first boss in the series to be playable in the game in which he was the last enemy.
