Dedé Santana, 86, reported in an interview with the magazine Look having been rejected by some colleagues after having positioned himself in favor of President Jair Bolsonaro (PL).
Without naming names, Dedé Santana said that some of his colleagues stopped talking to him.
“A lot of people have stopped talking to me since I defended him, people I prefer not to name names. I met a guy by the name of Capitão, he lived near his condominium in Rio, and I always addressed him like that, Captain. Until that stab during the election happened and I realized that ‘Captain’ was a candidate for the presidency. I went there to show solidarity,” he said.
The comedian, however, assured that he did not know that Bolsonaro was in politics. “I didn’t even know he was a politician! I said: ‘I want you to be my president!’ And I don’t regret it.”
The former Trapalhões also commented on the difficulty in making humor in Brazil today because of “political correctness”.
“It is complicated [fazer humor] because of political correctness, you can’t say anything else, which becomes a problem. In the clumsy of the 1980s and 1990s, there was no malice. I would enter the scene and say to Mussum: ‘Oh nigga!’. He would reply: ‘Negão is your passadis!’. And everyone laughed. They called me a ‘joyful boy’ and I saw no evil. Nowadays it’s all complicated,” he said.
