Entity created by operators starts procedures to release 5G signal in Brasília | Technology

Siga Antenado, an entity created by operators Claro, TIM and Vivo, winners of the main band in the 5G auction, started the final procedures to release the 3.5 gigahertz (GHz) band in Brasília.

This frequency band will be used to transmit the fifth generation (5G) mobile internet signal. With this, the federal capital can be the first city in the country to have 5G working.

Currently, part of the 3.5 gigahertz (GHz) band is also used to transmit the satellite TV signal. In order to avoid interference, the signal will be transferred to another band, which requires the installation of protection filters and the distribution of kits to receive the new signal from satellite TVs.

Last week, Siga Antenado began installing protective filters in Brasília. The expectation is to install 110, according to Leandro Guerra, CEO of Siga Antenado.

Regarding the kits for receiving the signal from satellite TVs, the entity started this Monday (20) the distribution and installation of the kits. The forecast is to distribute and install 3,300 kits in Brasília.

Installing the filters and distributing the kits are the two pending steps for activating the 5G signal. Once the filters are installed, Siga Antenado may ask the group from the National Telecommunications Agency (Anatel) that monitors 5G to activate the signal in Brasília.

According to Guerra, the expectation is to finish installing the filters by the end of June. “We have been working to finish this in the month of June, but we are not absolutely convinced, because this difficulty appears when you go to the field to install the filter”, he told g1.

He did not want to set a date for the start of 5G activation in Brasília, but the expectation at the National Telecommunications Agency (Anatel) is that this will occur in July — the distribution and installation of kits for receiving the new signal from satellite TVs can continue even after activating the 5G signal.

Guerra says that Brasília was chosen to start installing the filters and distributing the kits because it requires a smaller amount of equipment compared to other cities. In addition, the equipment is already available in stock.

In the case of the other capitals, there is still no forecast for the start of this work. According to the schedule approved by Anatel, the release of the 3.5 GHz band for 5G in the capitals should happen by the end of August, and the technology needs to be activated by September 29, a period already extended by two months due to difficulties equipment import by Siga Antenado (video below).

“We have made a great effort for this project to move forward with speed. This additional period of 60 days should be enough”, says Guerra, in relation to the other capitals of the country.

Families registered in the Federal Government’s register of social programs (CadÚnico) and who use conventional satellite dishes to tune into television channels are entitled to receive kits for receiving the new satellite TV signal.

The distribution and installation of the kits will be free for these families. The cost is borne by the operators themselves, as provided for in the 5G notice.

According to Siga Antenado, families who are entitled, that is, registered with CadÚnico and who use conventional satellite dishes to tune into television channels, must contact the entity’s call center to schedule the installation of reception kits. of the new satellite TV signal.

The service channels are by phone 0800 729-2404 or through the website www.sigaantenado.com.br. The entire process is free. If you don’t make the switch, you may have no TV signal.

Anyone who uses external, fishbone or internal digital antennas already has access to Digital TV and will not need to do anything. Those who have subscription TV will also not need to make the switch.
