All viewers of Beyond the Illusion were waiting for the solution of the main problems of the soap opera, including the unscrupulous Matthias (Antonio Calloni), who committed numerous atrocities before becoming virtually disabled by acute schizophrenia. In the final chapter, the ex-judge collapses with the family’s latest statements about his mistakes and decides it’s time to leave, finding a more practical solution to write a suicide letter and disappear from the map.
He leaves the letter at Violeta’s (Malu Galli) house and leaves for the river to throw himself and never come back. However, it doesn’t take long for the feuilleton to show him wandering the streets of Rio de Janeiro, digging through garbage to find food. That’s right: “Doctor Matias”, as Leônidas (Eriberto Leão) insistently called him, becomes homeless!
This was the resource found to give the character an outcome consistent with legal reality, after all he would probably receive a lenient sentence due to his health condition, and death was perhaps too easy for a man who caused widespread chaos in his own family, murdering his own daughter and turning everyone’s life into hell.
In addition to Matias, the other villains will also receive the consequences for their actions, such as Úrsula, who manages to escape from prison but does not keep her luck for long, and Joaquim, who goes in search of his biological father, is arrested by the hiding Abel’s (Adriano Petermann) body, serves a four-year sentence and returns to a completely different life.
