While most of the Overwatch League news in recent weeks has revolved around roster additions and signings, Comcast Spectator (the owners of the Philadelphia Fusion team) has announced that the team will be making a serious change as it look ahead to the 2023 season.
Specifically, the franchise will rebrand and will now be known as the Seoul Inferno as it leaves the city of Philadelphia behind in favor of becoming the second team based in South Korea.
The reason behind this decision is simply due to the fact that the team has been primarily based in Seoul since the beginning of the pandemic, and now, in a bid to have the best success in 2023, the team will be permanently relocating as they aim for a championship trophy.
“As we prepare for the upcoming season, we have been evaluating how we can best compete at a consistent championship level, and we have realized that our franchise will be best positioned to succeed in Seoul,” said Dave Scott, president and CEO of Comcast Spectacle. “We are excited to begin this next chapter as the Seoul Infernal, and our team is proud to represent our current and future fans on the global stage.”
Infernal will now be based at the T1 headquarters in Seoul, and as for their new logos, jerseys, roster, etc., these will all be revealed in the coming weeks and months.
It must be said that the currently signed ownership, management and listing will not change after this relocation.
