Pokémon Go has revealed its Lunar New Year 2023 event that includes increased chances of getting Shiny Darumaka, Lucky Pokémon in trades, and much more. This is all coaches need to know.
To celebrate New Years, Pokémon Go has another New Year-themed event planned, this time focused on Lunar New Year celebrations originating in China.
The event is celebrated by offering a variety of themed Pokémon, including Darumaka to represent traditional Daruma dolls, as well as Buneary and Mega Lopunny to celebrate the Year of the Rabbit according to the Chinese zodiac.

Trainers will also have a better chance of winning Shiny Pokémon or receiving Lucky Pokémon in trades, among other bonuses. So here’s everything we need to know about Pokemon Go’s Lunar New Year 2023 event.

Dates and times of the Pokémon Go Lunar New Year 2023 event
According to the official Pokémon Go blog post, the Lunar New Year 2023 event will begin on Thursday, January 19, 2023, at 10:00 a.m. (local time) and end on Monday, January 23, 2023, at 8:00 p.m. local.

Bonuses during the Pokemon Go Lunar New Year 2023 event
During the event the following bonuses will take place:
- Increased chance of finding Shiny Darumaka.
- Higher chance of becoming lucky friends.
- An additional Special Exchange may be made up to a maximum of two per day.
- More chances of getting Lucky Pokémon in trades.
- x2 Stardust when opening gifts
Players will also be able to get the special item Red Lantern Backpack for our characters through the in-game store during the event. Fortunately, those who don’t get the backpack will also be able to get it after the event ends.
