League of Legends Super League, the official league of the Riot Games game, disembarks in Zaragoza for the dispute of its great spring finale. The organizers advertise it as “the LOL party”, although the tickets are already sold out.
The Multipurpose Hall of the Zaragoza Auditorium, with capacity for around 2,000 spectators, will host on April 1 the most important eSports title match in the country between the two best League of Legends teams of the moment: Heretics and Movistar Riders.
The program of events for the grand final on April 1 will begin at 12:00 in the Multipurpose Room of the Zaragoza Auditorium with the opening of the doors of the new ‘fan zone’ space, which will have 15 stands. In this space, LVP, Riot, the finalist teams and brands such as Imagin, Cacacolat, Mahou and Intel-OMEN-El Corte Inglés, among others, will carry out activities for all visitors: the final of the Imagin Challenges with Manute, the Forge Domino’s to check who is the strongest, Mahou ball pool, food trucks, the Cierzo Esports Academy of Juventud Zaragoza with a Virtual Reality experience…
Access to the ‘fan zone’ will be free, that is, it will not be necessary to have a ticket for the final. The fan zone will remain open for three hours, until 3:00 p.m., when it will close to prepare the venue for the grand finale. The doors of the Multipurpose Room will open again at 4:15 p.m. to welcome the almost 2,000 fans who sold out just over 24 hours after going on sale. Already on the big stage, attendees will be able to enjoy the preview of the competition before the first map is played at 6:00 p.m.
“We are going to organize a great fan zone before the final with a multitude of activations to turn the final in Zaragoza into the great League of Legends party”
“We want the Super League final in Zaragoza not only to highlight the best team of the season, but also that all the fans, both those who were able to get tickets and those who were not, live a very special day. For this reason, in collaboration with the Zaragoza City Council, we are going to organize a great fan zone before the final with a multitude of activations to turn the Zaragoza final into the great League of Legends party”, says Jordi Soler, CEO of LVP .
Organized by the LVP (Professional Video Game League), the Super League final will feature a series of special actions both before and after the game, among them, the opportunity to be photographed with the cup, a ‘fan meeting’ with the Super League commentators and a preview full of surprises.
It will be the first time that the Aragonese capital hosts a Super League final that maintains the format of previous editions: a regular season (18 days) that leads to playoffs between the first six teams in the table.
“Zaragoza offers us the best conditions to carry out a spectacular final of the Super League”
The Aragonese capital will not only host the most important game of the course, it will also be present in all the Super League broadcasts through different sections and content.
“Zaragoza offers us the best conditions to carry out a spectacular final of the Super League. From LVP, we thank the City Council not only for their interest in hosting the final, but for their involvement in offering an unforgettable experience for all attendees and for fans of the competition. We are preparing a series of activities that will complement the great game for the title, and that will allow the Super League final to once again be the eSports party in our country”, explains Jordi Soler, CEO of LVP.
In 2022, the Super League closed with 25.8 million viewers (counting the LVP channel and those of the co-streamings), 98% more than in 2021, when the co-streamings had not yet been launched. In addition, it added almost 11 million hours watched, double that of 2021, and reached the highest peak in the history of concurrent viewers for a national competition: the Super League summer final, in which Heretics beat Giants, reached 92,479 simultaneous viewers on the LVP channel.
What is LOL, the Super League game?
The Super League is played every Tuesday and Thursday on Twitch. The teams that compete here are from a colossus of traditional sports like FC Barcelona to Finetwork KOI, the team led by Ibai Llanos and Gerard Piqué, as well as Fnatic, one of the most important teams in Europe, which lands in the Super League hand in hand from Team Queso. The Basque team from BISONS ECLUB and a national eSports classic like Team Heretics complete the list of new faces in the video game competition, which includes Giants Gaming, Movistar Riders, G2 Arctic, UCAM Tokiers and MAD Lions Madrid among its contenders.
In the League of Legends video game, champions compete in matches, which last between 15 and 50 minutes on average. The objective of the game is to destroy, working in teams, the central structure (called Nexus) in the enemy team’s base after going through a line of towers. Each player controls a character called a champion. Champions are chosen at the start of each match and each have a unique set of abilities. As of September 2021, there are 157 champions available, with the latest addition being Vex.
The ten teams meet on Summoner’s Rift, the League of Legends pitch, in a double-round format that concludes in a playoff. As was the case up to now, the six best teams at the end of the regular season enter the playoffs: the first two go directly to the semifinals and the third to sixth fight for the other spot in the semifinals.
