OnePlus Fold/Open: what we know so far

OnePlus is one of the few remaining major smartphone brands without a foldable device in its portfolio, but that is about to change with the upcoming announcement of the OnePlus Fold or OnePlus Open as recently speculated. The official device name is still under wraps, but it’s expected to debut in August at a special event in New York, and we’ve rounded up the most up-to-date leaks and rumors in one place.

Design

The OnePlus Fold is expected to arrive with an outward-facing folding design similar to the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold4 and vivo X Fold2. A recent batch of CAD-based renderings shared by @OnLeaks display a tall cover display and a larger inner panel.

The renders of the OnePlus Fold actually look similar to the leaked schematics of the yet-to-be-announced Oppo Find N3, which is expected to remain China-exclusive, while the OnePlus foldable will be available internationally.

The renders also reveal a OnePlus 11-inspired camera cutout on the back with Hasselblad branding and three sensors. The OnePlus Fold brings sleek metal sides and a textured back with a leather-like finish. The sides also have a fingerprint scanner embedded in the power button and the fan-favorite alert slider on the left side.

Specifications

Moving to the specifications department, the OnePlus Fold will house a 6.3-inch AMOLED deck display with FHD+ resolution and a 120Hz refresh rate. The outward-facing panel is also expected to carry a 20MP selfie camera housed in a centered hole cutout.

The primary 7.8″ LTPO AMOLED display is likely to have 1,900 x 2,100px resolution and 120Hz refresh rate. Based on the renders, it will have a punch-hole in the top left corner for its 32MP selfie camera.

Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 is expected to cover the chipset department and it will be paired with up to 16GB of RAM and 512GB of storage.

The OnePlus Fold is expected to carry a 50MP main sensor (IMX890) along with a 48MP ultrawide (IMX581) – the same sensors found on the OnePlus 11. We found the camera setup to perform adequately in our review, you can take a look at some examples here. The third module on the back of the OnePlus Fold is expected to be a 64MP telephoto camera.

The OnePlus Fold is expected to bring a similar camera setup to the OnePlus 11

The OnePlus Fold is rumored to come with a 4,800mAh battery and 67W charging support, which is slightly less than the OnePlus 11’s 5,000mAh battery. The software department is expected to be covered by OxygenOS 13.1 based on Android 13, but it remains to be seen how OnePlus plans to add more features to the bigger screen.

Price and availability

Pricing and availability are the two biggest question marks regarding the OnePlus Fold, with no real leaks published so far. Being a horizontally folding device with flagship specs means we should expect a price tag in the $1,500-$1,800 range just like the Galaxy Z Folds and Pixel Folds of the world.

As for availability, the OnePlus Fold is likely to launch in the US and Europe first with more regions expected to follow. We’ll be sure to update you with more details about the OnePlus Fold as they emerge, so keep an eye on our news section.
