Chronic wasting disease found in Marshall County deer

The Iowa Department of Natural Resources says a deer in Marshall County has tested positive for chronic wasting disease. The DNR says it will increase its deer sampling in Marshall County from the current 15 to 20 deer samplings per year to 100 or more over the next year. A total of 260 deer have tested positive in 16 Iowa counties since 2013. Chronic wasting disease attacks the brains of infected deer, causing the animal to lose weight, exhibit abnormal behavior and die. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said so far there have been no reported cases of chronic wasting disease in humans.
