
At one point in the script’s development for Thor: Love and Thunder, Satan or the Devil would make a personal appearance in the scene of the meeting of the Gods. It wasn’t in particular Mephisto, one of Marvel’s most popular underworld characters, but another demon. This was abandoned at some point and after the film was released, concept art for the character was shared online teasing the character’s involvement. Now, it looks like development has gone further than expected with prosthetics and makeup being done to give the character a practical look.
The makeup work done by Australia’s Odd Studio appeared on an Instagram for the business, showing an actor – Septimus Caton – in makeup. Odd Studio was also behind the hands-on makeup for Christian Bale’s Gorr, Butcher of the Gods.
Before he was cast as the Greek god Zeus, Russell Crowe was actually in the running to play the Devil. That’s at least what some of the initial concept arts reveal…
Taika Waititi, who directed Thor: Ragnarok, returns to direct Thor: Love and Thunder. He also co-wrote the film’s screenplay with Jennifer Kaytin Robinson. The film stars Chris Hemsworth, Tessa Thompson, Natalie Portman, Christian Bale, Kurt Russell, Chris Pratt, Jaimie Alexander, Pom Klementieff, Dave Bautista, Karen Gillan, Sean Gunn and Vin Diesel.
