Twitch streamer Felix ‘xQc’ Lengyel broke a Minecraft speedrun record, which challenges players to go from the beginning of Mojang’s building game to defeating the Ender Dragon in the shortest time possible, nearly two years after the previous record was reached. established by would-be rival Sebastian ‘Forsen’ Fors.
In April 2021, Forsen set the Ender Dragon speed record, catching up with the Minecraft boss in just 20 minutes and 38 seconds. However, on January 4, Canadian Twitch streamer and former Overwatch League professional player xQc, who is in a friendly rivalry with Forsen, completed the same run in 20 minutes and five seconds, significantly beating the previous best time.
xQc has been practicing running Minecraft since Forsen’s record breaking 2021, and the game’s RNG (random number generation) proved to be a major hurdle, with players requiring a near-perfect world seed to quickly obtain the materials needed for locate the Ender Dragon and win the climactic battle.
“Hi @Forsen,” xQc writes on Twitter, sharing a screenshot of the word log run. “This is official notice that your record has been destroyed. It may be time to submit to purgatory once again. Good day.” xQc then add “PS: get going. Boss.”
There are a variety of speedrun categories for Minecraft, including one that challenges players to simply enter the Nether, which requires building a portal using semi-rare obsidian blocks. The current record in that category is just two minutes and seven seconds, set in 2022 by the German runner ‘ensn’.
